It’s no secret that life has felt a little unstable. I think 2021 is still a skeptical year for some. Many of us are starting this year with a lot of uncertainty for what lies ahead. When I think about my emotions over the past few months – feeling a little crazy, to feeling hopeful about slowly reopening, to finding a new normal, and back to uncertainty and nervousness for what lies ahead; ROLLER COASTER! I have had to dive deep into myself to build up some tough layers during the past few months to get through some of the uncertainty around me. So, here I am telling you that it is okay to feel all of these things.
I’ve learned so much about self care the last while, during a time where emotions are high and opinions are loud. It’s easy to be clouded by what everyone else is saying around you. Remember the absolute importance of doing things for yourself, saying no when you want to and saying YES to things that actually make you genuinely happy.

These are my thoughts:
Breathe
It’s really amazing what 10 deep breaths can do. It helps you to get out of your own head and create space for other things. This personally helps me with my mental health. Although this is the case, it is sometimes easier and less complicated staying stuck in my own head. But don’t.
Disconnect
This seems pretty obvious but social media is TOXIC. There are so many opinions. What always seems to happen? We compare our lives to those around us. Social media makes you feel like what YOU are doing is wrong. Please do not let the noise out there drown out your thoughts. Make choices and decisions based on what YOU want to do and what YOU think is best. You are not missing out on anything, I promise. Turn off your screen, take a walk, listen to music, go outside. Disconnect.
Change your environment
Some of us are still working from home, some of us are living alone, some of us are just needing a mental break. Changing our environment can be really great for our energy and motivation. I feel safe in certain places, like home for example. But I think comfort zones can cause isolation, resentment, lack of contentment and loneliness. Small changes can make a big difference.
Problem or Possibility?
I read someone’s blog the other day and she mentioned this: “Instead of looking at things as a problem, we should rather turn them into a possibility”. I can be so guilty of dwelling on my problems. I can feel very sorry for myself. We are the only ones who have the power to change the way we look at things.
My aim in this post is to remind you that it is seriously okay to feel all sorts of things. Addressing it, feeling it and letting yourself be sad is an important part of the process. But I also know that this process can be beautiful when you let go and move forward. Trust in that and take care of yourself!
May you feel comforted in knowing that you are not alone.
