25 Things To Do Before You Turn 25

Sometimes all we need is just a new perspective.

1. Realize That Life Has Already Begun

The sooner you realize this, the sooner you will be able to start doing things that actually matter.  Every decision of yours matters and every choice counts.  Aim to live a meaningful life now.  Enjoy every minute of it.  Do not wait until the ‘perfect time’.  There is no such thing.

2. Slay Those Fears

Stop the fears from controlling your life.  Do not be afraid of trivialities.  Learning to live beyond your own comfort zone will always allow you to live your best life.

3. Establish Meaningful Friendships

Friendships affect you in more ways than you realize.  Authentic connections with those that you love help you to sharpen your mind, live a happier life, understand yourself better, become inspired to reach your goals and allow people to hold you accountable with the kind of life you would like to live.  This is important.

4. Establish A Good Habit

Adopting healthy habits contributes to the person you would like to become.  This is any behaviour that may benefit you spiritually, physically, mentally as well as emotionally.  Creating these good habits makes you feel really good and improves your overall well-being.

5. Define Your Goals

Get closer to the things you want to accomplish.  Know what you want and do everything you can to attain those goals.  Many people believe that setting a goal is having a dream that is in the far distant future and will never be attained BUT you are more than capable of fulfilling your goals right here and now.

6. Do What YOU Believe Is Best

Have you ever done everything you were told to do and yet still felt incredibly empty?  That is when you know that something is not quite right.  Do what you believe is best for you.  Not for someone else.  It is easy for people to influence you towards their direction but what means the most is where you believe you should go.  Do not do things to make other people happy.  Do things to make you feel happy!  Do things that you want to do, not what other people think you should do.

7. Embrace Your Flaws

There is nothing more satisfying than moving past your flaws and insecurities.  Instead of us being afraid of our flaws, why not do what we can with them?  What you believe about yourself affects you.  Learn to love yourself!

8. Go Back To Your Childhood Memories

Nostalgia always makes you appreciate the little things more.  Relive personal moments from your past with a loved one or even by yourself.  This will help you to see how far you have come and the beautiful memories that you have made throughout your life.

9. Go To Ten Restaurants That You Really Love

Make a list of all the different places you would love to go to for dinner and finish that list.  There is something exciting about completing an adventurous list in life.  It not only exposes you to so much more around you but it also provides you with the opportunity to use those moments to connect with people that you love.

10. Do One Thing That Pushes You Out Of Your Comfort Zone

This does not necessarily mean go bungee jumping but it could just be something really small.  If you end up hating it, you will still feel proud of yourself for giving it a go.

11. Let That Grudge Go

Life is way too short.  Resentment ends up damaging you more than anyone else.  Just let it go.  Use all of that energy for healthier pursuits.  Past grievances are overrated.

12. Learn To ‘Be’

There is a word in the Italian dictionary – “Asolare”.  This means to spend time in a meaningless but delightful way.  We need to learn to just be, instead of always doing.  Make time to rest and to sit still.  It does you wonders.

13. Learn To Say “No”

Learn to say “no” before you learn to say “yes”.  You do not have the responsibility to do every single thing someone asks you to do.  We often feel compelled to say yes to every request but learning how to say no can earn you respect from yourself as well as from those around you.

14. Learn To Spend Alone Time

The most important relationship we can have in life is the relationship with ourselves.  Learn to enjoy your very own company.  Enjoy being alone.  Stop believing that you need to be around people to be happy.  You can make YOURSELF happy.

15. Accept Your Body Shape

Ladies, you are beautiful and men, you are handsome just the way you are.  Enough with the comparisons and expectations that you should look a certain way at your age.  Embrace who you are and what you bring.  There is nothing more satisfying than to fully be accepting of yourself.  This brings you so much happiness and contentment.

16. Spend Time With Children

I have learnt a lot about this over the past year and it is true when I say that children look up to you.  They are naturally drawn to people who love and dote on them.  You are undeniably cool in their eyes.  Children admire who you are, so do them a favour and spend more time with them.  They want to enjoy your amazing sense of humour (you can trust that they would laugh at any joke you present to them), your style and what you carry.  From my time with them alone, I have learnt to remind myself that life should never be too serious.  Their positivity, cute stories and naivety will only make you appreciate the beauty in the small things.

17. Spring Clean Your Bedroom

You may think this is a joke… but it really is not.  I never thought that cleaning each and every part of my bedroom would rejuvenate me as much as it has.  It makes you want to stay organized, clean and on top of your game.  This does not mean everything now has to be perfect but cleaning your room will provide you with a new found energy.

18. Fail

You read that one correctly.  I have personally feared failure but looking back, I can truly say failure moulded me into who I am today.  Do not be afraid to fail.  There is no better way to grow, learn and push yourself to succeed in the future, than to fail.  It is scary but learning how to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move forward, is crucial.

19. Sing In Public

I have lost count as to how many times I have done this.  It is so liberating.  Singing changes your brain.  It is a known fact that singing can make you happy and reduce loneliness.  If you have a fear of public speaking, this would be a way to overcome it, by singing your heart out in front of strangers in the corridors or shopping centers!  Sing so much that someone comes up to you and tells you to stop.  You will not be fearful again.  Even if you feel you do not have the best vocal chords in the world, sing… Otherwise, the shower is also a really good option.  Can I get an AMEN?!

20. Learn How To Cook

I do not mean aspire to become Martha Stewart – just learn how to make a few fancy dishes for one of those special occasions.  This one is definitely for me.  Does anyone want to join me at a cooking class?

21. Have a Morning Routine

This is something an adult would do, right?

22. It Is Okay To Think You Are Awesome

When we hear good things being said about us by people that are in our lives, we automatically tell ourselves to stop being arrogant.  This is wrong.  It is healthy to be proud of yourself.  You are awesome.  Accept it.

23. Learn To Ask For Help

We want to do and handle everything on our own, and we are stronger than we know but there is zero shame in asking someone for help or admitting that we do not want to be alone when going through life’s trials and tribulations.

24. Celebrate Something Every Day

Life can be chaotic and so often we get caught up in dividing our days into good and bad.  When you end up looking at it, life is actually to be enjoyed, not endured.  Find something to celebrate and by this I mean spoil yourself with a big slice of cake.

25. Choose Love

…….. Because love triumphs all.
