The Opening Act

I love performing.  It will always be an exciting passion of mine.  The thrill of knowing people are watching you whilst you display your God-given talents on stage is a feeling like no other.  Many performers will agree that it is easy getting caught up in the lights, but after learning more about my true identity in Christ, performing became a raw and beautiful passion, where it was no longer about the lead roles, beautiful costuming, bright lights and smoke machines, but more about who I was doing it for…. and that was for God.

Because performing has always been a part of my life, I suddenly received a crazy image in my head that God used in order to help me understand my life better.  Through this, certain things have been revealed to me and one thing for sure is this:

I am just the opening act and this is God’s show.  Now, for the opening act, you can sometimes pay too much attention to what others think of you.  One thing I have done is scan the crowd to see who has not shown up.  Often I am too focused on who is in the crowd, that I actually forget who is always on stage with me.

If I could request anything, it would be for my spotlight to be dimmed and for lights to be put up over the presence of God in my life.  If it were up to me, I would try and put on the best show I possibly could, but no one would leave feeling more alive unless God was there.

I want to dance with God.  I do not want a ‘stale’ representation of His grace.  To build on Him is my greatest desire.  I am not focused on how many people will come to our show but whoever does end up showing up, I want them to feel something.  I want people to walk away from me feeling as though they have just heard the best news.

For as long as God is up on that stage with me, it will always be front page worthy.

This isn’t our world after all.
